Help change a child or young person's life whilst teaching a subjecty ou're passionate about and earning good money

We've seen it first-hand, tutoring can change a child or young person's life. With a little bit of tuition a child who is at the bottom of the class and reluctant to say anything in front of their friends can gain the confidence and knowledge to answer questions in class and tackle the more difficult questions. It doesn’t take long to build a child's confidence and love of learning. This stays with them and can change their life chances.

If you want to make that difference and you are passionate about a subject that you have successfully studied at GCSE level then you could be a Peppo Tutor.

Why Peppo Tutors?

Follow these 4 simple steps to become a Peppo Tutor:

Step 1: Register - You register on-line providing basic information about yourself, your qualifications and experience. No previous tutoring or teaching experience is required, but if you have experience with children or young people please mention it. Our academic standards are high and we expect an A/7 at GCSE in the subject you would like to teach and a real passion for the subject. We will need two reference one academic and one personal. Please note that we are not able to take students on a Tier 4 or Tier 2 UK Visa as they are unable to register with HMRC as self-employed.

Step 2: Interview - After your application has been reviewed you will be sent an email inviting you to attend an interview. The interview will be on-line and will last about 30 minutes. The interview will include an opportunity for you to present a 10 minute lesson in a subject of your choice.

Step 3: References and DBS check – We take safeguarding very seriously and need to receive references from both the referees you identified when you registered before you can start tutoring. You will also need to provide 2 forms of identification (e.g. passport and driver’s licence) as well as a proof of address (e.g. bank statement) issued in the last 3 months. We need these documents in order to apply for your Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check which we will pay for.

Step 4: Receive your login - Once you are accepted and have your DBS you will be ready to take the on-line training and start your Peppo Tutoring experience

Fair Pay: For fee paying children you have the ability to set the price you want to receive for an hour of tuition from £12-25 an hour. As a guide, the average price most tutors charge is between £15-£20. For disadvantaged children we pay £12 per hour for all face to face lesson time. All payments will be made monthly in arrears. When you become a tutor you will need to register as self-employed on the HMRC website.

Comprehensive Training: If you are not a qualified teacher then you will have the opportunity to attend a bespoke tutoring training course, free of charge. The course can be carried out on-line but, when there is sufficient demand and Government regulations permit, we will hold live courses. The training will provide you with the skills you need to plan engaging tuition sessions.

Certified Tutor: If you carry out our bespoke training and complete [10] hours of teaching through Peppo then you will be awarded Certified Tutor Status™ which is recognised as a benchmark of quality assurance by a third party award training body. It's also great for your CV.

Tutor Community: Tutoring can be a lonely experience and there is so much that tutors can learn from each other and so we hold virtual staff room meetings where you can come along with a coffee and a question or an idea. We also encourage our tutors to join and participate on our Peppo Tutor Facebook group.

Teaching experience: We understand that you are busy and need to make tutoring work around your schedule. So we allow you to set the times when you are able to teach giving you that flexibility. We will also try and give you a varied teaching experience of private tutoring and tutoring disadvantaged children.
